Saint John of God Brothers (Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God)

Access: By appointment only. The archives are private. While we endeavour to give access in general, there may be certain items that have closure periods on them, or that are unavailable for other reasons, such as if they are not yet catalogued.
The archives contain the records of what is now the West European Province of Saint John of God, from the 1880s onwards. The archives include material on deceased Brothers, administration, houses and services, among other things.

Some collections:

  • Saint John of God presence in Ireland (Saint Augustine’s, Blackrock, County Dublin; Saint Raphael’s, Celbridge, County Kildare; Saint Mary’s, Drumcar, County Louth; Saint John of God Hospital, Stillorgan, County Dublin; Saint Joseph’s, Shankill, County Wicklow; and others), the United Kingdom and Malawi.
  • Missions founded from Ireland to countries which have since evolved into distinct Provinces, such as Canada, Australia, Korea and the United States of America.
  • The mission from Ireland to Malawi (started 1994), which continues today.
  • The mission from the UK to Zambia, which continues today.
  • Provincial Administration (SJOG Hospitaller Ministries – Ministerial Public Juridic Person)
  • Records of deceased Brothers of the West European Province, encompassing those who were members in Ireland, the UK and Malawi.
